To shout out something offensive at those who do not understand
Humans tend to fear what they do not understand. Perhaps some don't call it fear. Maybe they identify it as something else, like irritation or fustration. But the naturally expected behaviour to one that does not understand a particular issue, especially one that concerns his very well-being - is to either be curious about it, and seek deep to find out more, or to be in some sense, offended by it.
A little knowledge is a dangerous thing. And for a matter like christianity that has a nature which
is offensive, its only acceptable that people who have a bit of knowledge of what this religion thing is about, loom over dangerous waters - in the sense that they are entertained by pre-concieved notions that paint a picture of something laughable, mockable, stupid or etc.
Whacking the grass only alerts the snake. And the more elaborate your whack, the more aware the snake will be. The louder effect you make, the easier it is for the snake to identify your location. The more enthusistic you thrust, the faster the snake can flee. Or well, maybe he wants to come and poision the idiot first before fleeing.
However. Sometimes the logic does not follow. It tends to tend towards an extreme - the onlooker either hates it a lot and wants to... do something about it. Or he loves it a lot and then showers the 'concept' with loves and respects or better still /sarcasm, he harmonises it with the rest of the the 'concepts'. Erm, why? Maybe its because sometimes, the ones who are supposed to be offensive aren't doing it justifiably - they either want to do it so as not to offend, or do it anyway and then offend in the wrong way. The former is done easily through the preaching of gospel lite and the propagating of happiness and love and joy and peace and the harmony of the human race. Easily, we can forsake key elements of the gospel that will anger - allowing ourselves to forget things like Sin. The severity of it, the actual finger pointing and telling the person that he has
done wrong and needs to repent. The revelation to him that its not in his position and capactiy to eliminate these wrongs as he is
not capable of doing so. The latter, done by knocking on doors to present them with a card that says 'John 3:16'. To smile at passerbys as you walk out of church and exclaim 'Jesus loves you!'. To mention Jesus and God in a context that disallows the further clarification of anything else. And commercialised gospel music.
Alright. Perhaps I am being too skeptical and harsh on my interpretation of the second one. But really.. Christians have in their hands something that will offend anyway, so why not we show hand and deal out the entire thing so we can offend them fully? Giving them unsubstansiated tidbits and exclaiming words that carry deep significances with no explainations seriously does no justice to anything. Its only a proclaimation of the kingdom when its done properly isn't it? And why not quality proclaimation then? To tell the story and point them to the kingdom, not say words in a hurry and celebrate your own experience. Its not worth it giving someone more fodder to be angry if his assuptions of what this whole 'christianity thing' is about are negetive.
